Cleaning mirrors

Dirty mirrors reduce laser power and cutting quality. Regular cleaning maintains optimal performance. Clean mirrors when you notice power loss, poor cutting results, or visible dirt on the mirror surface.

  • Latex or nitrile gloves
  • Clean cotton cloth (lint free)
  • 70% isopropyl alcohol
  • Flashlight (for inspection)
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Allen key set

Before you begin:

  1. Turn off the laser machine completely
  2. Inspect the cotton cloth for particles or debris that could scratch
  3. Put on latex gloves to prevent fingerprints and oils on the optics

BRM Pro:

  • Mirror is covered by a metal plate
  • Remove 2 Allen bolts with Allen key
  • Carefully remove the metal plate

Other models (Budget, Original, Slim):

  • Mirror is covered by a threaded ring
  • Unscrew the ring by hand

Same procedure as Mirror 1 above.

The mirror on the laser head has a threaded retention ring:

  1. Try unscrewing by hand first
  2. If too tight, use a flathead screwdriver in the ring slots
  3. Apply gentle, steady pressure to loosen
  4. Important: Do not let the screwdriver slip and contact the mirror surface

Once the ring is loose, carefully lift the mirror from its holder.

Follow these steps for each mirror:

  1. Wet the cotton cloth with 70% alcohol (not dripping wet, just damp)

  2. Hold the mirror by its edges (never touch the reflective surface with bare fingers)

  3. Gently wipe the mirror in one direction across the surface

    • Use light pressure
    • Do not scrub or apply force
    • Let the alcohol do the work
  4. Dry with clean cotton cloth to prevent alcohol stains

    • Use a fresh, dry section of cloth
    • Wipe gently until completely dry
    • No streaks or residue should remain
  5. Inspect with flashlight to verify the mirror is completely clean

Critical: Check mirror orientation

The reflective (shiny) side must face toward the laser beam path. Installing backwards will prevent the laser from working.

  1. Place mirror in holder with reflective side facing the correct direction

    • Mirror 1: Reflective side toward laser source
    • Mirror 2: Reflective side toward Mirror 1
    • Mirror 3: Reflective side toward the lens
  2. Replace the cover or ring

    • Pro: Align metal plate and insert Allen bolts
    • Other models: Thread ring by hand first
  3. Tighten securely but gently

    • The ring/cover should be snug
    • Do not over-tighten (this can stress the mirror and cause damage)
    • The mirror should not flex or show tension
  • Light use (education): Clean every 3 months or when power drops
  • Medium use (creative): Clean monthly
  • Heavy use (production): Clean weekly or when power drops

Signs you need to clean:

  • Visible dirt or residue on mirror surface
  • Reduced cutting power
  • Poor edge quality
  • Inconsistent engraving depth
